Accessibility statement

Our goal

WellingtonNZ wants everyone who visits this website to have a good experience when browsing. We ensure the website is digitally accessible for people with disabilities.

We continue to make changes to improve the user experience of the website for everyone. We aim to follow relevant accessibility standards.

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define requirements for designers and developers to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities. The guidelines have three levels of accessibility: A, AA, and AAA.

Web Content Accessibility Guidelines

Wherever possible, WellingtonNZ will aim to adhere to level AA of the WCAG 2.1 guidelines. There are four principles for accessibility success criteria for sites.

  • Perceivable — information and user interface must be presentable to users in ways they can perceive.
  • Operable — functionality must be available to all users, for example through a keyboard.
  • Understandable — make content readable and understandable.
  • Robust — content must be robust enough that a wide variety of users and assistive technologies can understand it.

What we are doing

To ensure accessibility we:

  • use plain English and write to a 12 to 14-year-old age level
  • have internal policies that take accessibility into account
  • incorporate accessibility into our procurement practices
  • provide our staff with continual accessibility training
  • have clear organisational accessibility targets and responsibilities
  • conform to formal accessibility quality assurance methods.

Technologies we use include:

  • HTML
  • WML-ARIA
  • CSS
  • Javascript.

As part of our efforts to achieve WCAG 2.1 AA compliance, we use Siteimprove as an ongoing monitoring service.
