New Zealand Opera’s season opens in April with a contemporary retelling of a Jane Austen novel. ‘Mansfield Park’ is based on the famous novelist’s 1814 book of the same name. The Regency-era comes to life with all the grace, charm, and vitality that you’d expect. English composer Jonathan Dove has written the music. He has more than 30 operas to his name and is one of the most popular opera composers living today. The production’s New Zealand debut is being performed in the ornate and intimate surroundings of Public Trust Hall on Lambton Quay.
Austen’s wit is famous and litters the score. Follow Fanny, Edmund, Henry, and Mary in a sparkling study of manners, marriage, and money. The production has garnered critical acclaim worldwide and now it’s set to delight Austen aficionados and music lovers in Wellington.
