Tourism Trade hub

The talent team helps maintain, attract, and develop talent within the business sector of Wellington.

It supports employers in attracting top talent to live and work here. This includes supporting skills and intern programmes such as Young Enterprise and Summer of Tech.

The Major Events team works with the event sector to maximise the economic, reputational, and social benefits to the Wellington region.

To help major events succeed, the team works across:

• event attraction and feasibility
• sponsorship marketing and promotion
• logistical and venue support
• feasibility studies and major event bids
• all-of-city response, activations, planning, management, risk management and coordination.

The Venues Wellington team within WellingtonNZ manages civic venues in the city on behalf of Wellington City Council.

Our venues combine heritage and character with state-of-the-art technology. They’re ready to host everything from rock concerts to conferences. With 26 spaces available across the six venues, the diverse choice offers versatility and flexibility. All venues are centrally located in Wellington City.

The venues we manage include:

• St James Theatre
• Michael Fowler Centre
• TSB Arena
• Shed 6.

We have event experts to take care of everything from tech to ticketing, catering, to security. You’ll have all the support you need to deliver an exceptional event experience.

Our Performance Events team looks after sports, music, theatre, comedy, and exhibitions. Our Business Events team can help with conferences, tradeshows, and other corporate events.

The Screen Wellington team is Wellington’s film office. It’s a one-stop shop to make filming in Wellington easy. We can help you have a seamless production process in a city that lives and breathes screen. This includes:

• securing studio space
• connecting you to post-production or VFX and mixing facilities.

Since 2019 Wellington has held the prestigious title of a UNESCO City of Film. This title acknowledges Wellington as the best place in Aotearoa to learn about, create, and engage with film. It also adds Wellington to the UNESCO Creative Cities network.

As part of this, Wellington UNESCO City of Film Strategy sets out how we continue to use film for the betterment of Wellington. It also allows us to leverage the support of the network and bring cultural experiences to the people of Wellington.

The strategy also aims to increase access to screen experiences and promote diverse voices. Specifically, the voices of rangatahi , Māori, and Pasifika.
