About the trail
This loop trail meanders through regenerating native bush, beginning with a well-marked gravel trail through mamaku and ponga ferns. This lower reach of the walk allows prams, buggies, and youngsters to access fairy doors placed along the path.
Often walked in a clockwise direction, the 1km loop is an easy track with gentle rises, bridges and regular signs to identify native plants. Look out for the surprise on one of the smaller bridges.
The area has been looked after and replanted with natives by volunteers, and you’ll pass numerous signs describing the many native plants in the area.
The loop joins the intersection with the more challenging and longer Kingsley and Tawhai loop tracks before descending back through 300m of replanted tracks.
The loop trail starts at the entrance to Horoeka Scenic Reserve on Horoeka Street, Stokes Valley. Check out the Metlink website for regular bus services to Stokes Valley.
