About the trail

This grade 4 route traverses nine different trails and climbs to an elevation of 478m. Taking in Missing Link, the top of Leaping Lizard and Nikau Valley, it includes some of the more remote trails in the park.

This mountain bike-only route can be used in one direction and has a moderate overall physical rating.

The trail starts from the Mākara Peak summit, or 50m uphill at the intersection of Upswing and Aratihi.

There are regular bus services to Karori and the surrounding area. Bus timetables are available from the Metlink website.

All of the trails can be soft and slushy during and after rain. Wait two or three days after heavy rain before hitting the trails.
Take warm waterproof clothing, durable footwear, sunscreen, food, water, a basic toolkit, puncture repair kit, first aid kit, mobile phone, and a map.
The main car park on South Karori Road has toilets, bike wash, bike pump, information boards, and a picnic area.
Basic supplies can be purchased from the Karori village shops.
Dogs must be on a leash at all times.
No camping, fires, or motorbikes.
