Twenty Eight café prides itself on its “different and delicious” food. Located a short walk from the centre of Lower Hutt City, the café’s mantra translates to unique dishes that showcase the region. Locally-sourced ingredients make up modern brunch and lunch dishes. They’re often served with an interesting twist. Instead of two eggs on toast, you’ll find fiery shakshuka or Greek-baked lima beans on house-baked sourdough.

The dedicated team of skilled chefs and front-of-house staff are handpicked from across Wellington. Here they make everything from scratch. The crisp focaccia bread, cheese scones, and delicate cakes are all testament to this. The condiments are even produced in-house. The tea (Websters), and coffee (Ozone) have been carefully selected to ensure the perfect brew every time.
The café is found at its namesake 28 Cornwall Street. The modern minimalist interior creates a feeling of calm and respite from the bustle outside. The staff welcome regulars and newcomers. It’s this dedicated style of service that has earned the café its popularity. On Saturdays alone it’s overflowing with customers; sometimes a queue forms out the door.
Owner Joshua Ross has used his wealth of experience working in some of the region’s top eateries to craft a café with a focus on quality. His team of seasoned staff apply the same pinpoint focus across all aspects of the business.
