You’ll find twenty-seven names’ flagship boutique on Ghuznee Street, at number 27. The double-up in the name and address is a happy coincidence. When Anjali Burnett and Rachel Easting founded the brand in 2006, they named it after the 27 people who got it off the ground. Now, their store is down the road from their workroom, in the central neighbourhood of Te Aro.

The light and open space leaves plenty of room for browsing. A restrained, minimal fit-out lets the clothes sing. The brand is known for colourful collections and playful prints. The bold pieces hang on gallery-like racks. Delicate dresses and crisp tailoring hang side-by-side, offering plenty of potential new favourites.

As well as making fun and feminine womenswear, twenty-seven names has a reputation for transparency. Its clothes have been proudly made in New Zealand since the start. Championing both people and the planet is at the brand’s core. With transparency in mind, twenty-seven names publish exactly where every component of its garment has come from, right down to the trims. Deadstock fabric (leftovers that would otherwise go to waste) often features in collections. It’s paired with sustainable hardware, like shell buttons.
